Christmas and New Year’s celebrations in Ibiza
Updated: Dec 11, 2018
You can dream of a white Christmas in Ibiza but in general the weather is sunny with nice temperatures in the day time, great for exploring the Island and enjoying lunch in the sunshine. All the villages and especially Ibiza Town are decorated from top to bottom, with lights in the streets and a huge Christmas tree at Vara del Rey. Since we don´t have the snow we make up in decorations. Many activities are being organised and to give you an idea of what you can do, here are some of the highlights.
· A fairground near Can Misses, busy during weekends
· An ice-skating rink at the Antoni Albert I Nieto square.
· Christmas markets at Vara del Rey and Plaza del Parque.
· On the days 20 and 21st of December one can enjoy a living nativity scene at Mercat Vell accompanied with a concert of Christmas carols.
· Nice to visit is also Santa Eulalia and the Christmas market at Las Dalias in San Carlos.
As Spain is Catholic you will find the churches decorated for the season and some of them have beautiful nativity scenes. The cathedral of Ibiza organises various concerts mostly of religious music, and why not visit mass at the 24th at night? Traditionally in Spain people eat home for Christmas, starting with dinner on Christmas Eve followed by Christmas lunch on the 25th. But many restaurants are open and serve Christmas dinners and lunches.
On New Year’s Eve the tradition is to go out for dinner and party till very late.
Pacha has a full house that night as well with Lío goes to Pacha with DJ Luciano.
Melon Bomb at Nassau Beach Club and why not New Year’s Party at Heart.
This year we are going to La Imprenta, a fabulous restaurant with a cabaret show hosted by Paula.
For the die-hards amongst us DC 10 opens the 1st at 16:00 with Circo Loco.
The festivities end in Spain with the three kings (Los Reyes Magos ), Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar arrive from a faraway country by boat in Ibiza Harbour on the evening of the 5th of January after which they go through town with big and showy parade. As every year they bring presents and candy for the children.
